Report on Fluke DSP-4000 CableAnalyzer™

This letter summarizes the results of an evaluation that was conducted at NORDX/CDT on the Fluke DSP-4000 CableAnalyzerä . The DSP-4000 is a newly released product from Fluke that is used for testing Category 5e and proposed Category 6 links and channels in the field. The tests were carried out on an IBDN 4800LX system from NORDX/CDT with a rated bandwidth of 300 MHz.

For this purpose, measured data from the Fluke DSP-4000 was compared to measurements taken using a network analyzer in combination with precision baluns and fixtures. From the tests performed, we found that the Fluke DSP-4000 gave accurate readings over the complete frequency range up to 350 MHz, in accordance with the proposed Level III accuracy specifications from TIA. A good correlation was obtained for sensitive crosstalk and return loss measurements with only minor deviations attributed to test setup differences. We conclude that Fluke DSP-4000 CableAnalyzerä instruments are suitable to verify the performance of installed channels for IBDN Gigabit Cabling solutions (System 1200, 2400 and 4800LX).
